This week's edition of the Sports Hair of the Week centers around March Madness and Memphis G Doneal Mack is the big winner. Mack took a page out of former New York Knick and NBA great Anthony Mason's playbook, by shaving a design into his head. A big stipulation involved in shaving a phrase or picture into the head of a basketball player is that he or she must actually have game. Unfortunately in Mack's case, his talents don't hold a candle to the infamous Mase, as displayed by his meager NCAA Tournament playing time (most minutes played in a tourney game was 6 and he only logged 2 minutes in the championship game). While Mack's 'star' was obviously executed by a barber with great skill and precision, it does not reveal anything about the city or the city of Memphis not did it in any way help the Tigers win a national championship (which they did not).
Mason took creativity to a whole new level by having the New York City skyline shaved into his head for the 1994 NBA playoffs where the Knicks made it all the way to the Finals before losing to the Houston Rockets in 7 games. Even today, when Mase shows up to watch his son Anthony Mason, Jr. play for the St. John's Red Storm, he is still seen with words carved into his head. Some people never change so next time you get in a fight, Mase has your back!
